Roma are ready to sell Tammy Abraham for £40m this summer - and believe he will return to the Premier League.

Former Chelsea striker Abraham enjoyed a brilliant first season in Italy but it has not gone so well this time and Roma will be open to offers.

Chelsea do have a buy-back option on the England international but a return seems unlikely with their bulging squad numbers.

However, Roma expect any buyer to come from the Premier League because of the price tag and also his contract would make it hard for him to move to another Italian club.

Italian media has linked him with Aston Villa but, judging by Ollie Watkins’ form and how he has benefitted from being the main man, that would seem unlikely. Reports suggested he was also scouted by Manchester United last month as they look to add a new striker this summer..

Abraham has spoken before about how much he has enjoyed his move to Italy but there will be no shortage of Premier League clubs eyeing him this summer.

“I’ve become more confident and have learned a lot about myself," the England striker said. “At Chelsea I was known as ‘the academy player’, and I think coming here I’ve realised it’s time to bring out my personality and show the world what I can do.

"It’s been an amazing experience learning about a different culture and seeing a different area of life.”

Abraham will be in action on Thursday night as Roma bid to end the season with another trophy, as they take on Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League semi-final. Jose Mourinho's side won the Conference League last term and Abraham added: “Winning another trophy would be a dream.

"When I arrived I said I wanted to win a cup before I left and I didn’t expect to win it so soon. Seeing the joy of everyone in the city was fantastic. It was what the fans deserved, after all they went through.”

“Europa League is difficult. It’s something I’ve known since I was a child and it would be nice to go all the way, hoping to lift the cup at the end.”
