Four children cling to cliff after being trapped by tide in dramatic rescue

Four children were left clinging onto a cliff face after being trapped by the tide.

The youngsters were saved in a dramatic rescue along the Cornish Coast on May 1.

Terrifying pictures show the moment they were pulled up the cliff, after the RNLI deemed it too risky to try and navigate the crashing waves and rocks below by boat.

The rescue was assisted by the Polzeath Coastguard and Port Isaac lifeboat who acted as safety cover, Cornwall Live reports.

Boscastle Coastguard Team said: "Boscastle team called out to reports of four young persons cut off at Hull beach, north of Trebarwith Strand with an incoming tide.

"Port Isaac RNLI were also tasked with this incident and were quickly on scene.

"A quick observation was taken from the crew, and it was established that it was too risky to try and get between the rocks with the incoming tide/swell, with no immediate risk to persons involved with their position on the rocks.

"With this, Boscastle Coastguards set up a rope rescue extraction from the cliffs above, with the back up flanking team of Polzeath Coastguard and Port Isaac LB on safety cover.

"A cliff extraction was well under way and all four were pulled to safety to the awaiting parent with one needing minor casualty care to a small cut to his leg.

"A good outcome to a multiple team effort with all involved. All teams then stood down and back at stations."
