Missing Nicola Bulley’s pal pleads for 'online trolls to stop hurtful comments'

A close friend of missing mum of two Nicola Bulley has urged online trolls to stop making ‘hurtful comments’, as she said police are doing all they can to find her.

The 45-year-old disappeared along the River Wye on January 27, sparking a major search and rescue mission by police, fire brigade, the coastguard and the RNLI.

Since Nicola’s disappearance her picture has been shared widely on social media by people hoping to help the search for the mum who had been walking her dog.

But Emma White, a friend of Nicola’s, said some people have made hurtful comments as well as speculating on her friend’s current whereabouts.

She told BBC Radio Lancashire: “People are sharing live videos on TikTok, we’ve got people wanting to go to a local caravan park and knock on.

“It’s very, very kind that people want to help but we do have to leave all of this in police hands.

“There was a guy out there that had gone to a local house. These are local people in our community, you just can’t go and knock on people’s doors.

“Believe me, they have been to the caravan park, they have been to local houses, they are looking, they aren’t just focusing on the river.

“They are doing everything behind the scenes, to find out what’s going on.

“What we can do, is we can stop the speculation, we can stop the hurtful comments.

“That’s what would really help.”

Today an underwater team of experts joined the search effort using sonar technology in the River Wyre in Lancashire.

Specialist Group International (SGI) were drafted in by police yesterday to help trawl the River Wyre for the mum.

Founder Peter Faulding says there are several confusing elements, and prior to joining the search yesterday told the Mirror he expected SGI's equipment to find Nicola in under an hour if she was in the river.

Mr Faulding said all the police have to go on right now is Nicola's phone, which was left on a bench overlooking where investigators suggest she may have fallen in.

Her dog was found wandering alone nearby, with her harness and lead removed.

Speaking to TalkTV last night, Mr Faulding said: "After 25 years of doing this kind of work, after hundreds of cases, I am well and truly baffled.

"When people drown they generally go down where they are. We normally find them within five to ten metres of where they went down even after a few days.

This is the most baffling case that I have ever worked on. The police have nothing to go on.

"All they have is a mobile phone at the moment and they said it could possibly be a decoy."
