Conor McGregor boasts of "playing ping pong" with Floyd Mayweather's head

Conor McGregor is confident he would beat Floyd Mayweather with "some real nice adjustments" in a potential rematch.

McGregor, 34, was stopped by former five-weight world champion Mayweather in his boxing debut when the pair met in an illustrious crossover fight in 2017. 'Notorious' had some success in the early rounds of the fight, but he was outclassed by Mayweather as the fight went on and was ultimately stopped in the 10th round.

The Irishman has now boldly claimed he could get the "job finished" if he fought Mayweather again, tweeting: "Round 9. I was playing ping pong with this guys head in there at many times in this fight. If you don’t think there is some real nice adjustments that can be made and implemented in a second fight, to get the job finished, you’re silly."

Fans have since disagreed with McGregor with many telling him that Mayweather "carried" him in their crossover fight, with one user writing: "Somebody needs to explain to Conor that Floyd carried him into the later rounds for entertainment purposes. He barely through a punch the first four rounds and then landed pretty much at will in the later half of the fight."

"Mayweather was toying with you. He could've finished you any round he wanted," a second user wrote. Conor, Mayweather is nearly 50 and he’d still dominate you in boxing just let that one go and try focus on winning some MMA fights please," a third comment read. "Love you Conor, but even you don't believe that. Floyd had his way with you and he would/will again in a rematch," a final user wrote.

Mayweather retired from professional competition after improving his flawless record to 50-0 by beating McGregor. 'Money' has since been on a tour of exhibition fights, competing against MMA fighters and influencers in the likes of Dubai, Japan and England. The 46-year-old is back in action next month against John Gotti III, the grandson of notorious New York mob boss John Gotti.

Former two-weight UFC champion McGregor hasn't competed in the ring since his stoppage loss to Mayweather. 'Notorious' is set to make his octagon return against Michael Chandler later this year but has opened the door to a boxing return after his UFC career is over. McGregor also recently shared his interest in competing in bare-knuckle boxing after facing off with Mike Perry in the ring last weekend.
