Chris Waddle believes that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich would be the perfect fit for Harry Kane after witnessing at close range the growing frustration of the England captain.‌

Due to his own Tottenham connections the former England wide man would in an ideal world want Kane to stay in North London but right now it’s anything but normal in N17 6QA.

With one year remaining on his contract the biggest decision in the career of England’s record goal scorer is looming and Waddle insists he should be allowed to make it.

Waddle was at St. James’ Park as Newcastle humiliated Spurs 6-1 with Kane cutting a forlorn figure in the knowledge that some deep soul searching was on the agenda.

“I saw him walking off at half-time at Newcastle with Spurs 5-0 down,” Waddle said. “Harry was livid thinking what am I doing there? I’m England captain, England record goalscorer and we’ve been embarrassed.

“If Tottenham were 10th I could have understood it better, that they were already on the beach. But they are going for a Champions League spot.”

Spurs face another stern examination of their mental state at Liverpool on Sunday while Kane knows the speculation over his future is ramping up week by week.

“If it was me I would go abroad if I was Harry Kane,” Waddle added. “He’s a good age, he’s 29. He has years ahead of him because he is a fit lad. He doesn’t miss many games. He’s a great player now. That experience of playing in a different country would make him even better.

“With my Tottenham links I wouldn’t want to see him join another Premier League club. I think it would be hard for him to run out in a Manchester United shirt after all his years at Tottenham. Chelsea would be desperate to sign him but he daren’t go there because of the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

“Away from the Premier League he could play for another seven or eight years if he went to Italy,. Germany or Spain.”

If Kane moved abroad he would be following in the footsteps of past Tottenham greats like Glenn Hoddle, Paul Gascoigne and Waddle himself.

“Most of Tottenham’s top players leave,” Waddle added. “Glenn Hoddle left (to Monaco), Paul Gascoigne left (to Lazio), I left (to Marseille). The fans related to all three of us as they do to Harry now.

“Like Glenn, Harry has been at Tottenham all his footballing life I can see a lot of the fans thinking ‘Christ if he goes, what’s going to happen to the club?’

“But things move on, clubs change but if I was Harry I would seriously consider the options in the summer.”

For Waddle opportunities at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich stand out. He explained: “At Real Madrid Karim Benzema is 35. He would be a great fit for them the way they play. Bayern Munich need a number nine because they haven’t replaced Robert Lewandowski.

“Then you look at Italy and which clubs are rebuilding. Would Juventus want to invest in him although there are lots of things going on around the club. There’s AC Milan because Olivier Giroud isn’t getting any younger.

“Harry could play in Italy to Giroud’s age (36). There’s a lot of options going for him and rightly so because he’s a top player.

“Or he could say, ‘You know what I am desperate for Tottenham to win a trophy and I want to be part of that. A new manager will be coming in and I want to see what happens.’ He might see something happening which would make him want to finish his days at Tottenham.”
