A 27-stone dad who let his baby daughter starve to death while he feasted on fast food has been jailed for life.

Accused Christian Miguel Bishop-Torrence, 26, pleaded guilty to murder on Wednesday, where a court heard how one-year-old Georgia weighed just 8 lbs 8 oz (3.85kg) when she died, less than she did at birth.

Clinically obese Bishop-Torrence - who tips the scales at 375 lbs (170kg or 26.78 stone) - had been on his way out for fast food with a pal when he saw his daughter struggling to breathe.

He persuaded his friend to drive the critically ill infant to hospital where she died minutes later, according to local media.

The court heard how Bishop-Torrence and his wife Sage Angel Rose Wright, 24, knew their baby had been losing weight for months but did nothing.

Horrified hospital medics called in Wichita Falls Police Department officers, who found the baby to be malnourished, the court was told.

Baby Georgia died just 20 minutes after arriving at the hospital on June 11 2021, said prosecutors.

Dr Suzanne Dakil, a forensic examiner, conducted an autopsy and determined that the baby had been left "severely malnourished" and had sores all over her body, concluding that she had been starved to death.

A doctor told the court in the city of Wichita Falls, Texas, that she ought to have weighed between 22 and 24 lbs (9.9 and 10.8kg) at her age.

Jail records indicate that Wright, the baby's mother, weighs 381 lbs (173kg).

She is currently behind bars in Wichita Falls, awaiting a separate trial for capital murder.

Bishop-Torrence will be eligible for parole in 30 years and he only avoided facing the death penalty because of his guilty plea.

Wichita County District Attorney John Gillespie told local media he was at the hospital the night the baby was brought in.

He said: "It was something I'll never forget. It was horrific."

The Bishop-Torrence and Wright reportedly have two other children, who have not been named but who were also found to be malnourished.

Neglect isn't the only reason for malnourished children.

Parents of a newborn child who died of "prolonged starvation" were detained in Russia amid claims they are believers in "feeding on sunlight."

Mother Oxana Mironova, 33, and her partner Maxim Lyutyi, 43, who is known as a “radical raw foodist”, believe in “feeding on sunlight”, reported Zvezda News.

Lyutyi was separately detained for resisting police.

“The preliminary version of the infant's death is severe exhaustion…that the blogger tried to instil his nutrition system in the baby,” said the outlet.

The boy died around one month old and he is suspected of suffering from pneumonia and emaciation after starvation.
