Barry Humphries health update as medics caring for Dame Edna star slam rumours
Barry Humphries is said to be 'stable' in hospital after reports circulated that he was unresponsive and had been given morphine.
The Australian entertainer had been reported to be “unresponsive” in a Sydney hospital, according to local media.
The 89-year-old, best known for his character Dame Edna Everage, is being treated at St Vincent’s Hospital after suffering “health issues” following hip surgery.
According to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, he was readmitted after suffering complications.
On Thursday it was further reported by multiple local outlets that Humphries had gone into an “unresponsive state” and had been given morphine by doctors.

Later, the Sydney hospital treating him confirmed he was in a “stable” condition.
St Vincent’s Hospital said reports the comedian was “unresponsive” were “not accurate”.
A hospital spokesperson said: “He remains stable in the hospital in the best hands.”
The 89-year-old remains in hospital (PA)A family statement previously issued to the Sydney Morning Herald thanked fans and hospital staff for their “support and good wishes”.
Humphries has been a staple of the British comedy circuit since moving to London in 1959, appearing in West End shows such as Maggie May and Oliver!.
He was among the leading members of the British comedy scene, alongside Dudley Moore, Alan Bennett and Spike Milligan.
Alongside his Dame Edna Everage alter ego, he also appeared as the lecherous Sir Les Patterson and Sandy Stone, an elderly, childless man living in the suburbs.
It comes after Barry's family broke their silence and released a statement on his wellbeing, which was read out on Australia's 10 News First.
The statement read: "Barry Humphries is currently in hospital receiving treatment for health issues.
"Barry would like to thank everybody for the support and good wishes he's received but would like more and more."

It continued: "He would also like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at St Vincent's Hospital."
