After a dull and wet Easter break, Britain can finally look forward to the arrival of some warm, sunny weather, with soaring temperatures on the horizon.

Following the wettest March for 40 years, April hasn’t been much better in meteorological terms either, but all could soon be forgiven with a warm front heading to these shores in the coming days and just in time for May.

With some daily temperatures struggling to rise into double figures, a warm blast will be welcome relief for many, who have yet to put away their winter woolies due to the ongoing bleak weather.

Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services said: “I would expect a mini heatwave in May – it is well overdue.

“This is considering the weather we have had so far this spring, which has lacked the heat seen by now in previous years, often with April temperatures well into the 20s.

“We are now walking into summer with temperatures to rise into the high teens next week, possibly touching 20C.”

From Saturday (April 15), most areas will be fine and sunny, although the eastern side of the country will still not be totally dry with some lingering showers hanging round. The south will see the best of the temperatures, up to 15C.

And then from Sunday, it is forecast to be “rather warm” for most areas, but especially in the west, with predictions of 19C possible, but with a chill easterly breeze developing in the south.

The sudden rise of the mercury could well see Britain enjoying a warmer few days than some of Europe’s most popular hotspots, with some forecasters suggesting we could see 20C reached for the first time this year in the not-too-distant future.
