British husband arrested after wife, 36, plunges from 6th-floor balcony of hotel
A British man was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide after his wife suffered “critical” injuries in a plunge from a sixth-floor balcony at a Benidorm hotel.
The unnamed British woman, 36, was fighting for her life tonight at a hospital in nearby Villajoyosa.
A spokesman for Spain’s National Police confirmed the husband, aged 40 and also unnamed, had been held on suspicion of attempted homicide as “a preventative measure”.
They added: “It will be up to a judge to decide what happens next. The couple were sharing the same room and we are talking about a foreigner who has no ties to Spain, so we are under an obligation to make the arrest as we determine what happened.”

The alarm was raised just after midnight at the four-star Rio Park, part of the Medplaya hotel chain. It is set in a quiet area of Benidorm, just five minutes’ walk from the Costa Blanca resort’s Levante Beach.
The arrested man is expected to appear in court in the coming days.
