Neighbours heard a woman's piercing scream before rushing to her home to find her cradling her dead six-month-old baby.

Locals raced to her aid in Merriwa, in northern Perth, Australia at around 8am on Saturday.

One man said he tried to perform CPR on the little one before paramedics arrived on the scene.

Despite their best efforts, the baby couldn't be saved and was pronounced dead.

Sean Kavanagh said the woman's chilling scream was like nothing he'd ever heard.

In 2019, another mum in Sydney, Australia was heard screaming "my baby" after learning her one-year-old son had died after being left in a hot car.

The tragedy happened in Sydney, Australia, as temperatures rose above 30C, according to reports.

The child, who was believed to have a twin brother, was being looked after by his grandmother, 9News reports.

It is not known how long he was inside the vehicle.

By the time paramedics arrived he had been moved into a family home, but it was too late to save him.

Neighbours have said the child's mother was seen running down the road while shouting "my baby" after learning what had happened.

The boy's grandmother was later treated for shock, it is claimed.

A police spokesman said: "The child had been left unattended, we're still looking into the circumstances surrounding his death."
