Tearful woman finds photo of stranger's dog in charity shop with sweet message

Car boot sales, garage sales, and charity shops alike tend to surface some rather peculiar finds. Bargain hunters often venture out to explore people's unwanted possessions and secure them for a good price.

One savvy estate sale shopper was left dumbfounded after spotting a heart-breaking memorial portrait of a beloved dog, which seems to have been donated by their owner. Taking to popular social media app Twitter, Megan Bitchell admitted she was close to tears after spotting the 'saddest things [she's] ever seen'.

Megan - who boasts more than 93,000 followers on Twitter account @MeganBitchell - shared a snap of the adorable white pooch alongside an tear-jerking tribute of the family pet.

Sharing a snap of the four-legged pal, Megan wrote: "This is the saddest thing I've ever seen at an estate sale."

The tribute imprinted on the photo frame read: "Thanks for everything, I had a wonderful time."

Since posting, the Twitter used claimed that the item 'ruined [her] day' and admitted she couldn't take the item home.

While it may have seemed incredibly tempting, Megan responded to a message asking if she had purchased it.

She wrote: "No I literally almost started crying when I saw it I can't have that thing anywhere near me."

Explaining the situation further, she said: "There were a bunch of custom portraits of the dog too and a whole dinner set of him and then I walked into the garage and saw that behind a bunch of stuff."

Since posting, Megan's tweet has raked in over 200,000 likes to date.

Taking to the comment section, one person pleaded: "Please go back and buy it. I will literally pay you for your time to have this picture :((((."

Meanwhile, someone else wrote: "This made me cry. I just know that dog had a wonderful life."

"Bet he had a wonderful time," another added.

A third penned: "I feel the same way when I go visit an antique store. I first begin by being in awe of being surrounded by the nostalgic pieces.

"I then began thinking 'there was once someone who was so happy owning this piece at one time'. My awe quickly turns to heartache," they added.
