Mel B has claimed that her Spice Girls bandmates knew about the abuse she suffered in her marriage at the hands of her ex-husband, Stephen Belafonte.

The former Spice Girls singer, who was known as Scary Spice during her time in the girlband, has openly spoken about being in an abusive relationship with ex-husband Stephen in recent years - something which he has always vehemently denied.

Mel, 47, has said that although she was 'very good at hiding things' during the worst of her abusive marriage, she suffered for a long ten-years during her time with Stephen.

Speaking on Wednesday's Newsnight, the singer openly admitted that she has never been able to escape the trauma of the abuse she suffered, saying that that she will live with it 'for the rest of her life'.

During her heartbreaking interview, Mel also admitted that during the abusive marriage, she would never report the domestic abuse to the police because she felt as though she could never fully trust them.

When asked whether her Spice Girls band members had any inkling of what was going on at home, Mel claimed that some of girls knew in 'dribs and drabs'.

Speaking about her former bandmates, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, and Geri Halliwell, Mel B said: "Yeah, I think some of them did in dribs and drabs.

"But I was you know, I was in it for 10 years, I was very good at hiding things, especially anything to do with my then-husband, and what I was going home to or what I'd just come from."

After ten long years of marriage, Mel finally decided to split from Stephen, 47, back in 2017.

At the time, she claimed that he had emotionally and physically abused her during their 10-year marriage.

Stephen has continued to deny the claims, while Mel has gone on share her experiences in a bid to help other women.

The singer has since become a patron of Women's Aid and campaigns with the charity on domestic abuse issues.

Despite leaving her marriage and overcoming her fears, Mel has insisted that she will never be able to escape what she has been through

"I will always have to live with what happened to me, and it's going to be living with me side by side for the rest of my life," she said.
