A zoo has been slammed for allowing a tiger to stray into a lion's den before it died as a result of a brawl with three big cats.

In disturbing footage of the incident, the lions can be seen each clamping down on a different body part with their powerful jaws - one on its neck and the others on its rump - as they surround the outnumbered tiger.

Towards the end of the clip, which The Mirror has decided not to show due to its disturbing nature, keepers at Yibin Wild Animal World in China's Sichuan Province drive a truck into the creatures as they repeatedly sound the vehicle's horn.

Though they had meant to break up the horrific sight, they ended up running over the mighty animals with the front wheels.

The zoo confirmed the tiger died the same night as a result of the attack.

The animals were reportedly raised in the free range area in the wildlife park the lions and tigers were separated in different enclosures.

According to preliminary reports, the incident was caused by the animal "crossing the boundary".

People on Chinese social media questioned why the majestic tigers and lions had been allowed in the same area.

The two species are related but have vast differences in living habits and temperament, so putting the two together is likely to lead to bloodshed.

Tigers and lions are most-often paired together in circuses, but the wildlife park claimed it's common in zoos across the country.

Yibin Wildlife World announced that the Siberian tiger free-range area has been suspended.

It comes after a tiger killed a dog and injured a man when it escaped from its enclosure at a private farm in South Africa.

Authorities are now searching for the eight-year-old female Bengal tiger after the incident near Johannesburg over the weekend.

Gresham Mandy, a member of a local policing forum, claimed the tiger escaped after an unknown person cut the fence.

The tiger then attacked a man, two dogs and a deer kept on the same farm.

Mandy said one dog and the deer were killed, while the second dog was so badly injured it had to be put down.

According to local media, the man who was attacked survived but was taken to the hospital.

Residents have been warned to be on high alert in the Walkerville region south of Johannesburg and avoid confronting the tiger if they come across it.
