Rogue pigs cause chaos in ’terrorized’ quaint village after escaping from farm

An intrepid herd of pigs have been causing chaos in a Norfolk village by escaping from a nearby farm and digging up gardens while on the prowl for food.

A gang of mischievous pigs have been wreaking havoc in a tranquil village, leaving residents at their wits’ end as they dig up gardens and rack up repair bills into the thousands.

These porky troublemakers have been on a rampage after breaking free from a local farm in Garvestone, Norfolk, repeatedly invading properties in search of new territories to conquer.

Despite being captured and returned to their pens on numerous occasions, these audacious animals continue to escape, with fresh members of the pack joining the garden-raiding escapades.

Colin Williams, resident of Crossing Keeper’s Cottage, has been plagued by the invaders for months, prompting him to install CCTV to monitor their movements. He lamented that fixing his ravaged lawn could set him back over £1,000.

The gang of pigs have been relentlessly targeting villagers for ’months’

"We came here to live in this lovely village but now the first thing you see when you cross the railway is mullered grass," he expressed, yearning for an end to the destruction.

Mr Williams has reached out to the police, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Animal Welfare, and the Animal and Plant Health Agency regarding the trespassing swine.

Yet, authorities have deemed it a civil issue, much to the villagers’ frustration.

Lorraine Williams, Colin’s neighbour but not kin, has also sought help from various organisations to tackle the pig problem.

"We’ve been told this is a civil matter. I’m now looking to speak with Citizens Advice about what we can do," she disclosed, determined to find a solution.

Her husband, Phil Williams, shared his exasperation: "I’m angry. We just know it’s such a lot of money to fix this."

Gary Law, a local whose garden fell prey to the wandering porkers, lamented: "What is the point of putting it all back if they’re just going to come back again?"

Trevor and Danielle Armiger are the owners of the pigs

The community reckons the pigs’ owner, a certain Trevor Armiger, ought to foot the bill for their havoc-wreaking habits.

But Armiger himself has suspicions that foul play is afoot, with his fences seemingly snipped by a mystery vandal letting the livestock loose.

Claiming ownership of "about 100 pigs" at Orchard House, Mr. Armiger asserts he’s got CCTV snips and busted locks bolstering his belief that he’s up against deliberate damage.

"There’s nothing we’ve been doing to let them out and as soon as we’re aware they’re out, we bring them back," he insisted.

His other half, Danielle Armiger added her two cents: "We’ve got proof of someone coming in and letting the pigs out. But people around here aren’t listening to the whole story."

"Trevor has kept pigs here for over 40 years and since August, someone has been letting them out."

Comment from the Norfolk constabulary noted: "Police received a report of criminal damage on January 5 following the victim’s fence being cut on Town Lane, Garvestone."

Despite efforts, authorities hit a wall with the case shut tight, yet they remain open to reopening it should new evidence surface.

Meanwhile, a voice from Breckland Council shared: "We are aware of this issue and are currently investigating."

Ongoing sleuthing puts a lid on any further comment from the council for now.
