Buy an entire UK island with a castle for the price of a London studio flat
Torsa is a stunning 270-acre mini-estate with its own well-appointed, three-bedroom farmhouse, as well as a ruined castle and extensive beaches
A charming and secluded Scottish island has hit the market, complete with a farmhouse, castle ruins, woodlands and private beaches, all for the comparatively reasonable sum of £1.5 million.
While that may sound steep, a quick perusal of London’s property market shows that the same amount could barely secure you a studio apartment in the bustling city. Indeed, just a one-room flat without a separate sleeping area is what £1.5 million could get you near the heart of the English capital.
To be fair, it is a Grade II listed studio flat in a historic building, a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace, but still. For the same price, you could also buy Torsa Island in Argyll, a stunning 270-acre mini-estate with its own well-appointed, three-bedroom farmhouse, as well as a ruined castle and extensive beaches.

This picturesque 270-acre mini-estate comes with its own three-bedroom farmhouse, scenic ruined castle, and sprawling beaches.
Currently serving as a unique holiday rental spot, Torsa can be hired out in its entirety for an exclusive retreat. The owners are now looking to pass this idyllic island on to the right buyer, reports the Daily Record.
Recently, Torsa made headlines amid reports that Sheikh Yasser al-Habib, a contentious Islamic hate preacher, was negotiating to snap up the property.
According to the BBC, Sheikh Yasser al-Habib aimed to transform Torsa in Argyll into his own Sharia law-based Islamic "homeland". Earlier in the year, his organisation initiated a £3.5 million fundraising campaign to acquire the island, yet claims about its sale to him have been dismissed by real estate agents Savills, tasked with marketing the property.

To put the record straight, theTorsa Island website has even clarified the current situation by saying "contrary to recent press articles regarding Torsa, the sale of the island is not at an advanced stage with any buyer. Rather, the island remains for sale and continues to attract widespread attention."
The website continues "Viewings are ongoing with buyers who, like the current owner, are captivated by its scenic beauty, wildlife and the opportunity to sail in tranquil waters. Who ultimately buys will be a decision for the owners who have always said they hope to find the right buyer who will continue to enjoy this haven as their family have done for generations."
It seems that the lucky individual who manages to scoop up Torsa is in for a real treat if the pictures in the Savills listing are anything to go by. Get a glimpse of paradise by checking out the full gallery here.
