An assassination attempt has been made on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, former president of Iran after his car was allegedly tampered with.

The ex-president’s car had been sabotaged by "special security agents" in a plot to assassinate him, according to Iran International. Ahmadinejad narrowly escaped the assassination attempt due to a last-minute change.

Ahmadinejad’s primary vehicle is usually a Toyota Land Cruiser, and just days before the assassination attempt the vehicle had been sent to a unit within the presidential institution for repairs due to a malfunctioning air conditioner. Sources close to the situation spoke to Iran International, claiming that after being handed over to the institution, the car was seized by "special security agents" and taken to an undisclosed location, rather than the usual repair shop.
