Kyle Clifford’s former employer issues a direct statement after a period of silence regarding the crossbow murder suspect

Clifford’s former employers have spoken out following news that the crossbow-wielding murder suspect was tracked down by police after Wednesday’s comprehensive manhunt

Kyle Clifford’s former employer has issued a blunt statement after the suspected crossbow killer was found by police following a dramatic manhunt.

Clifford, 26, was tracked down by Hertfordshire Police yesterday following a comprehensive manhunt that took officers from Hertfordshire to north London after the service said he was wanted in connection to the killings of three women. Carol Hunt, 61, and her two daughters Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were found dead at their home in Bushey on Tuesday evening. 

Since Clifford was announced as a suspect, more information about his life has been revealed, including his past employment as a security guard and British Army soldier. One firm has now issued a statement disclosing that he was employed with them for just five months last year.

Fire and security installation firm Amthal, which is based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, said in a statement today that Clifford was briefly employed with the company. A spokesperson said he joined in February 2023, and worked with Amthal for fewer than five months before leaving. 

The spokesperson said: "Kyle Clifford was employed from February 22, 2023 to July 20, 2023. Since he departed from Amthal in July 2023, we have had no further communication with Mr Clifford." 

Some of Clifford’s other employers have also spoken out following news he was being sought by police, including a former army boss. The suspect reportedly also briefly served as a trooper in the Queen’s Dragoon Guards, and it is said that he later pursued a career in the Household Calvary Regiment after passing out.

Speaking to The Sun, a troop commander said he oversaw his Basic Training, and that Clifford had "struggled to grasp basic military concepts". They said: "Clifford joined the Army in 2019 and I was his Troop Commander from Basic Training.

"He struggled to grasp basic military concepts but managed to reach the standard to pass out from training. After passing out he joined the Household Cavalry Regiment but I’m unsure how his career developed from there. I hear he was working in private security so that would indicate that he is no longer in the military."
