Chaos engulfed Manchester Victoria station after an incident this afternoon.

Multiple trains were evacuated, while armed officers from Greater Manchester Police swarmed the train station.

Crowds amassed at the lobby, in front of the live departures board, waiting for further instructions amid the delays.

According to eyewitnesses, some platforms were closed, while police were seen patrolling the scene.

Police were called regarding the concern for the welfare of man at the station.

A spokesperson for GMP told Metro.co.uk: ‘He has come down safely now and getting the specialised support he needs.’

It is understood that officers from British Transport Police (BTP) also arrived and were giving advice to passengers.

A spokesperson for BTP said: ‘Officers were called to Manchester Victoria railway station at around 2.46pm following reports of a person in a precarious position.

‘The incident is ongoing, and officers are in attendance alongside colleagues from other emergency services.’

A police van and fire engine from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have also been spotted at the entrance to the station, which also has a tram stop.

All railway lines had been blocked at the station while police dealt with the incident.

Lines have been reopened since, but disruptions are expected until at least 6pm.
