Team GB star Kye Whyte taken to hospital after horror BMX crash at Paris Olympics
Team GB star Kye Whyte was stretchered off the BMX track after a horror crash at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday night.
Whyte, who won silver at the Tokyo games three years ago, crashed at the start of his second semi-final of the men’s BMX racing.
Whyte fell behind at the start of his race and appeared to clip the back wheel of another racer, causing him to crash heavily on the jumps.
Medics quickly attended the Brit who has been struggling with a back injury and earlier admitted he was unable to walk out of the venue last night on his own.
Around 20 minutes after the crash, a statement from GB Cycling read: ‘Following his crash in tonight’s BMX racing semi-final, Kye Whyte was assessed immediately by the on-site medical team.
‘This was followed up by further immediate review by Great Britain Cycling Team doctor Nigel Jones.
‘Initial reports are positive but he is being taken to hospital for further assessment.
‘We wish Kye a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him on his bike very soon.’

Medics quickly arrived to help Whyte
BMX is notably for its danger with this the fourth crash of the night.
‘We knew that Kye Whyte had a few injuries that had been bothering him in preparation of these games, so maybe they’re just looking after him in case he’s aggravated something,’ British cycling legend Victoria Pendleton said on BBC Radio 5 Live

‘It did look like a bad crash, and our main concern is making sure he’s OK.’
Whyte will of course play no further part in the competition while Team GB teammate Beth Shriever won all three of her semi-finals but finished a shock last in the final of the women’s racing.
