Meghan Markle's cooking skills and recipes unearthed as she films Netflix show
Meghan Markle’s cooking skills have been revealed amid rumours she’s releasing a new cookbook.
The 42-year-old Duchess of Sussex announced the launch of her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, in a post on Instagram on Thursday, and it later emerged she would be branching out into homeware and cookware with the new business venture. However, it was also revealed in trademark documents that there would be cookbooks and recipes in the future, as reports suggested Meghan was gearing up for a new cookery series on Netflix in conjunction with her new brand.
Meghan is no stranger to lifestyle websites, as she had her own blog, The Tig, which was originally launched in 2014. The website featured articles on mental wellbeing, food, wine and exercise, and was named after Meghan’s favourite wine. Sadly, the blog was shut down in 2018 ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry, but now diehard Meghan fans are rejoicing at her return. The Duchess of Sussex is a huge fan of fine dining and good wine, and in a clip from the Today Show from 2016, she cooked a delicious grilled chicken and shrimp salad live on air.

She appeared relaxed and knowledgeable about food as she confidently prepared the delicious meal, and chatted casually while marinating the shrimp in a spicy honey sauce. Meghan looked at ease as she began charring lettuce, and got stuck in as she started placing food on the grill while talking about food preparation to host Matt Lauer.
Oprah Winfrey snubs Harry and Meghan as expert claims 'the tide has turned'Fans heaped praise on the mother-of-two in the comments on the video on Twitter/X, with many crediting Meghan for nurturing her husband Harry through food. “She was the first woman to really make him home cook meals,” one wrote, as another added: “She's just so natural and always herself, whether she's talking about cooking, women's rights, or whatever. And she's knowledgeable without being patronizing. It's a wonderful combination and it works.”
Recipes on her former blog The Tig also delve into Meghan’s extensive food palate and honed tastebuds, with many suggested dishes featuring bold flavours and interesting ingredients. Some of her favourite recipes include poached pears in spiced orange juice, with the addition of unusual spices and herbs such as rosemary, basil and cardamom. Sharing her love for worldwide cuisine, Meghan uploaded a recipe for an Aegean-inspired kale salad in 2015, which was bursting full of Mediterranean flavours, with suggestions by the former Suits star to add protein such as chicken or fish to make the salad into a main dish.
Some of her beloved recipes are quite unusual, such as baked eggs in avocado, which involves removing the stone from the avocado and cracking an egg directly into it, before popping it in the oven to bake. Another unique Meghan recipe is the toasted oatmeal brulee, which is packed full of pumpkin seeds and raisins, with the cheeky addition of burnt brown sugar on top. Another bizarre choice is the red wine hot chocolate, which was probably created by Meghan due to her love of red wine. This was one of the last recipes to appear on The Tig in 2017, as shortly afterwards it was shut down, but the inclusion of the alcohol gives the creamy cup of chocolate a real depth of flavour.
