Ahead of Prince Harry being set to speak via video-link at the Diana Award Charity's 25th anniversary celebrations at the London Science Museum, he and wife Meghan Markle's Archewell Foundation website uploaded a video of them both surprising an award winner.

Meghan and Harry partnered with NAACP Image Awards a few years ago, following stepping down as senior royals, to create the NAACP-Archewell Foundation award.

Launched in 2022, the "annual award uplifts a new generation of leaders who are creating transformational change and working to advance civil rights through the online world".

The recipient of this year's award is Dr Joy Buolamwini, who is a computer scientist, digital activist and founder of the Algorithmic Justice League. She created the AJL to "overcome racist and sexist biases in artificial intelligence system".

As well as receiving the award, Dr Joy also is being given a $100,000 grant to "advance her work in supporting equity and accountability in AI".

Alongside a news article on the Archewell Foundation website, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex posted a video alongside it which showed them surprising a blown-away Dr Joy.

In the video, Harry and Meghan were seen holding hands and gazing sweetly at each other as they went to surprise Dr Joy with the exciting news.

Dr Joy couldn't believe she had won and exclaimed in the video: "No way! Are you serious," before Meghan and Harry gave her a hug. Clearly still shocked, Dr Joy later said to the camera: "Y'all got me so good."

In the news article, Dr Joy said of the honour: "I am incredibly humbled and honoured to join such an illustrious group of receipts for the Digital Civil Rights Award from the NAACP and The Archewell Foundation."

She continued: "With the rapid proliferation of AI, it is more crucial than ever to ensure that these algorithms acting as gatekeepers serve us all and do not impede on the civil rights of marginalized communities. This award will help the Algorithmic Justice League continue our work to prevent AI harms, connect the excoded to resources and raise awareness about AI’s impact on society through our advocacy, art and research."

Harry and Meghan's charitable update came ahead of Harry being set to giving an address at the 25th anniversary celebrations of his late mother, Princess Diana's charity's 25th anniversary celebrations.

Harry was set to appear at the event via videolink, avoiding an awkward run-in with his estranged brother Prince William, who was handing out all of the awards at the ceremony. Following speaking with his brother, the award recipients would be speaking with Harry via vdeo-link from his home in California.

Harry and William have had a famously frosty relationship since Harry quit his position as a senior royal in January 2020, before sharing bombshells about the Royal Family in his explosive Oprah Winfrey interview and criticising his brother in his autobiography, Spare.
