Alison Hammond made a hilarious dig about Kate Middleton's photo-editing drama in a new snap shared on social media.

The Princess of Wales caused a stir on the internet when the royal family released a digitally altered photo on Mother's Day showing Kate surrounded by her three children - Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and five-year-old Prince Louis.

The image came months after Kate underwent surgery and after the public was told initially that she would not be able to return to royal duties until after Easter while she recovered, although conflicting reports have suggested she won’t return to work for many more weeks after this.

After conspiracy theories started swirling online, the Princess of Wales released a statement saying: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day."

Since then, a lot of people - including This Morning star Alison - have used the statement to joke about certain photos.

Earlier this week, Rob Beckett shared an edited snap of him, Alison Hammond, Josh Widdicombe, Richard Ayoade, Nicola Coughlan, Natasia Demetrou and Daniel Mays posing together for the cover of his show, Rob Beckett's Smart TV. However, the information panel on the television covered Josh's face.

Josh commented: "Where’s Kate Middleton when you need her?" while Alison added: "I do occasionally experiment with editing."

Kensington Palace refused to release the original photo. It also failed to explain which parts had been altered or say why, reports Birmingham Live. The Palace added in a statement on Monday: “The Wales family spent Mother’s Day together and had a wonderful day.”

Royal sources said the Princess of Wales made “minor adjustments” and that Kate and the Prince of Wales wanted to offer an informal picture of the family together for Mother’s Day. "This was an amateur, family photograph taken by the Prince of Wales," it said. Speaking to GB News, royal commentator Charles Rae said: "I am appalled at the amount of nonsense that's spoken about this photograph today."

Many people have defended Kate, with Whoopi Goldberg speaking about the drama with her panellists on The View. She explained: "I'm sorry, I know very few people who don't manipulate their own photographs. All you've got to do is swipe, none of those people look like they're supposed to look. She's doing the same thing."

She also said: "I have to tell you, she may be the future queen, but she's still an amateur photographer. That’s what they do. I'm sure none of you have ever tampered with your own. It doesn’t change the fact that she said, 'Listen, I manipulated the pictures, I'm sorry'."
