Kate's walkabout with Harry and Meghan was 'one of hardest things she did'

A joint walkabout with Prince Harry and Meghan was "one of the hardest things" Kate Middleton has had to do, a royal book claimed.

Following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, the two royal couples walked together among the grounds of Windsor Castle as they greeted well-wishers. Royal fans gathered there for two days after the Queen died aged 96.

However due to "ill-feeling" between the senior members of the Firm, Kate is said to have struggled with their time spent together. In the book, called Our King, written by Robert Jobson, it touched on the appearance Kate and William made with Harry and Meghan as they put on a united front in the wake of the grandmother's death.

While the walkabout might have come across as a symbol of togetherness following the death of the centrepiece of the monarchy, Mr Jobson claimed that sources told him that wasn't the case.

He said the event was an "illusion" and he wrote: "Catherine later admitted to a senior royal that, such was the ill feeling between the two couples, the joint walkabout was one of the hardest things she'd ever had to do."

The book includes several other shocking claims and revelations, including that there were fears that if Meghan joined the Sandringham Summit via video link, it would not have been 'secure'. Alongside that, he also wrote that Charles and William decided they couldn't be alone with Harry following the Sussexes' bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, the Daily Mail reported.

It came as relations between the self-exiled royals and The Firm were at an all-time low. At the beginning of the year in 2023, Prince Harry released his explosive memoirs Spare, where he repeatedly took aim at the Royal Family and senior members.

One such claim included alleging that Prince William physically attacked him on one occasion. In his and Meghan's Netflix documentary a month previous, he also criticised King Charles as a father and took a swipe at other male members of the Firm for how they married.

Today, Princes William and Harry are both set to attend a memorial event for their mum Princess Diana - but won't appear together. The Prince of Wales is set to give a short speech before a crowd at the Science Museum in London tonight for the annual Diana Legacy Awards as he honours 20 winners - which marks its 25th anniversary.

His younger brother the Duke of Sussex will then offer his congratulations, but this will be done virtually from California. Their paths won't cross at all either, as Harry will appear on a video call with recipients after William has already left, according to reports.

The siblings did similar last year when they recorded separate videos to congratulate the winners. In previous years, they had come together. In 2021, for example, they put on a united front with the Duke telling the crowds: "William and I are recognising mum's 60th birthday.

"Later this week, my brother and I are recognising what would have been our mum's 60th birthday, and she would be so proud of you all for living an authentic life with purpose and with compassion for others."
