'Hidden' washing machine button cleans filthy dispenser draws for you
A game-changing hidden button on your washing machine could make cleaning the appliance easier than ever.
Keeping your washing machine clean is vital, as the damp environment can be a breeding ground for mould, making your clothes smell if left to fester. One of the most important parts to clean regularly is the dispenser drawer where you put your detergent, as the product can build up over time.
Thankfully, cleaning fans have discovered a secret button that makes cleaning the drawer a breeze - and it's left people gobsmacked, as many didn't know it existed.
One woman, named Faith, said she never knew there was a button on her washing machine that let her remove the drawer so it could be cleaned separately, and the discovery has revolutionised her cleaning routine.
Taking to the Facebook group Cleaning Tips and tricks in 2022 with before and after pictures of her washer, Faith said she had no idea the drawer could be removed, but once she figured it out, she was able to get it looking spotless by soaking it in warm water and washing up liquid, and scrubbing it with an old toothbrush.
Cleaning guru shares why you shouldn't make your bed first thing in the morningMany other members were similarly amazed by the apparently little-known hack, having also had no idea that the drawer could be removed. One astounded woman wrote: "They say you learn something every day. Well, today I learned this thank you". Another gasped: "Are you serious? I'm forever bashing my knuckles trying to clean the inside and you're telling me this whole time I could have just simply pulled it out? Running off to try now."
Offering help to those who weren't sure how to get their own drawers to budge, various members who've tried this hack before advised to press down in the middle of the drawer, right where the fabric softener is poured, before giving it a gentle pull.
The drawer trick isn't the only secret button on your washing machine either, as we recently reported there's a switch that can unlock the door in emergencies - such as when you realise you've left something in the pocket of your trousers, or if your appliance breaks down. The "secret latch" is usually located at the bottom of the machine on either the left or right of the machine, and you may need to remove a small cover to get to it.
Meanwhile, people were also left baffled recently after they learned what the "dry clean only" label on clothes really means. It turns out that the label doesn't actually mean your clothes have to be dry cleaned, and in fact, many delicate fabrics can be cleaned at home in the washing machine or the sink, regardless of what the label says.
There's also a difference between 'dry clean' and 'dry clean only'. If it says the former on the label, it's only a recommendation and not a rule. However, there definitely are some fabrics which are at higher risk of washing at home, so you could consider dry cleaning them - or they might get ruined.
