Fascinating pictures show the beach at UK holiday destination getting ready for summer.

Local photographer Robin Morrison captured the annual beach restoration organised by Dorset Council at Lyme Regis on Tuesday (March 12). He says: "Each year in early spring the sandy beach at Lyme Regis is restored. Over the autumn and winter months much of the sand is washed away in the seasonal storms.

"So, on the lowest tides of the year, which are occurring this week, the excavators and big trucks arrive on the beach area to set about restoring the beach for the summer season. Sand that has been washed into the harbour area is dug out from various places and dumped back on the beach area which is above the normal high tide mark. The dumped sand is then levelled and profiled by a bulldozer."

Dorset Council said: "When appropriate, beaches will be fenced off for safety due to the machinery being used. The colour of the dredged sand is often darker in colour due to the lack of exposure to oxygen on the seabed. Once exposed to the air it returns to the normal colour we are used to."
