Scarborough is the most sought after spot for UK holidays, new research suggests.

With spring fast approaching, plans to make the most of the long Easter weekend are well underway.

When it comes to staycations, exploring the seaside and nature is top of Brits’ priorities, according to Airbnb bookings.

At the top of the pile of the most sought after places to stay is Scarborough, which offers plenty of Yorkshire charm on its bracing seafront.

It is the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast in part due to the stunning views visitors can enjoy from the cliffs, and its historic town centre.

While there you can visit Scarborough Castle, take a cruise along the harbour, enjoy traditional fish and chips, go whale watching, or take a ride on the historic Scarborough Spa Express.

Other hotspots for a stay this Easter based on Airbnb demand include Belfast, Peak Forest, Weymouth, Tenby, Windermere, Ambleside, Blackpool, Aviemore and Keswick.

Last week the Mirror reported on prices rising for Easter breaks, largely due to high inflation and pressure on the property market.

The average price of a week’s stay in a property in the cheapest part of the country, Shropshire, sleeping up to six people is £657 over Easter.

That is nearly £300 less than in the Lake District, which is the most expensive area.

If you are keen to take some time off over the holidays and don't want to break the banks, Haven Holidays has some very good deals.

At the moment the company is selling three days in one of the its family caravans in April from £99.
