Samantha Markle claimed her sister said defamatory statements

The defamation case against Meghan Markle by her half-sister, Samantha Markle, was thrown out by a Florida court Tuesday morning.

Judge Charlene Honeywell not only ruled in Meghan's favour, she declared Samantha couldn't sue the Duchess again. In court documents obtained by The Mirror, Judge Honeywell said the elder sister "failed to identify any statements that could support a claim for defamation or defamation-by-implication".

But what exactly did Meghan say that Samantha took issue with? The court documents cite two media interviews Meghan did with her husband Prince Harry - one for their Netflix documentary series and their CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey and the exact words that Samantha claimed fell foul.

Samantha wrote a book about her life with Meghan (FOX 35 Orlando)

Before the series, in 2021, Harry and Meghan did an interview with Oprah Winfrey on CBS. The media icon asked Meghan about Samantha writing a "tell all" book about her life with Meghan titled The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister.

"I think [it's] very hard to tell all when you don’t know me," Meghan said, "And I, it’s this is a very different situation than my dad, right? When you talk about betrayal, betrayal comes from someone that you have a relationship with. Right? I don’t feel comfortable talking about people that I really don’t know."

Meghan also claimed she "grew up as an only child" and "wished" for siblings, something Samantha detests and claims she was involved in Meghan's childhood. The Duchess added: "The last time I saw her must have been at least 18, 19 years ago and before that, 10 years before that."

She also had a scathing comment for Samantha. "She changed her last name back to Markle, and I think she’s [in her] early fifties at that time only when I started dating Harry. And so I think that’s says enough," Meghan said.

The Netflix documentary series, Harry & Meghan, was released in December 2022. Out of the six episodes, the court documents claim Samantha is mentioned "directly or indirectly" in four episodes.

She slammed her sister for being "everywhere" while claiming Samantha and her have been estranged for years, doubling down on her previous comments to Oprah. In the series, Meghan told the camera: "My half-sister, who I hadn’t seen for over a decade – and that was only for a day and a half – suddenly, it felt like she was everywhere."

“I don’t know your middle name. I don’t know your birthday. You’re telling these people that you raised me, and you’ve coined me ‘Princess Pushy,'" she continued. Meghan also said: "I don’t remember seeing her when I was a kid at my dad’s house – if and when they would come around."

“And then the last time that I saw her, that I remember, is when I was in my early twenties," she added, “I hadn’t had a fallout with her. We didn’t have a closeness to be able to have that. And I wanted a sister.”
