A child has been seriously attacked by a monkey in the middle of the street in Gangoh, in Uttar Pradesh, India, according to onlookers.

The youngster was outside a shop on a busy road when they were mauled, with the incident caught on camera, The Daily Star reports. The video clip shows a boy falling to the floor before returning to his feet and running away, whilst being chased by the animal. Witnesses saw the child be attacked by the ape but no-one intervened.

One witness rode a motorbike and seemed to witness the entire attack before driving off on his vehicle. The incident was investigated by police, but they could not find the monkey. The unnamed child was hurt in the attack, but the extent of his injuries is unknown, local news reported. The boy is just one of several victims who has been attacked by monkeys in India over the last few months.

A little girl recently plummeted to her death from the roof of her family home. Six-year-old Kirti was sitting on a second-floor terrace with her granddad when the group of primates suddenly appeared on the property, according to previous reports. Kirti was scared and ran away but then tumbled from the edge of the roof.

A 10-year-old boy was also killed in Gujarat after he was disembowelled by a troop of langur monkeys while playing with friends.

Dipak Thakor was also taken to a local hospital but he was sadly pronounced dead before doctors could see him for treatment. An official said in a statement: "His intestine was ripped out in the attack. He rushed to his house and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival."
