Dancing on Ice confirmed for 2025 amid 'uncertain future' over long-running show

It has been announced that Dancing on Ice will return next year for a new series, with the news coming following doubts about the long-running ice skating show's future recently.

The news about the ITV show was shared during the latest series' final on Sunday night. Holly Willoughby and her co-host Stephen Mulhern took a moment to express gratitude to people who had worked on the series and its viewers. Holly said in the episode's closing moments: "That is it for this series. Thank you to all of our couples for taking part." She went on to thank commentator Sam Matterface, head coach Karen Barber and creative director Dan Whiston.

She concluded her speech by thanking the judging panel of the latest series, which consisted of Ashley Banjo, Oti Mabuse, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. The latter two judges have worked on the show since the first series. Stephen added: "And a big thanks to you for watching and voting. We are back next year with the brand new class of 2025." He further commented as the latest final drew to a close this evening: "Do not miss it! Until then, goodbye."

It comes after it was teased last month that the show faced an "uncertain future," following the news that Torvill and Dean are retiring from ice skating. The Olympic gold medalists however assured in their announcement that they would remain on the judging panel of the ITV show.

As reported by the Mirror though, sources said at the time that Dancing on Ice "faces a fight to continue." It was stated that cost is a "huge factor." Sources said that next year's series could be billed as "one last hurrah" for Torvill and Dean. A source said: "Dancing on Ice faces an uncertain future. The ratings are low for a big weekend show and without Torvill and Dean putting in their performances this could be the end of the road. It is an incredibly expensive show to make. It only works if it gets a big audience."

A spokesperson for the long-running ITV show however told us at the time: "Dancing on Ice remains a popular format for us, having launched with 4.2 million viewers." The latest series of Dancing on Ice concluded on Sunday night with former Coronation Street cast member Ryan Thomas and his skating partner Amani Fancy announced as the winners. The actor competed the final against Made in Chelsea star Miles Nazaire and radio presenter Adele Roberts. Greg Rutherford had been due to take part but the former Olympic athlete withdrew from the final after sustaining an injury just hours beforehand.
