A simple tip for reviving wilted hydrangea flowers has stunned people who never knew they absorb water in a different way to other plants.

They are known for their huge blooms of beautiful flowers that come in various shades of pink, blue and white and make a stunning addition to the garden or indoors displayed in a vase once cut, that will brighten up any room.

However you may find that the bulbous heads on hydrangeas wilt once removed from the bush or if you've bought them from a florist. Such was the case for one woman who loves the pretty flowers but was disappointed to find hers had drooped.

She took to TikTok to share how she'd managed to bring them back to life using a totally free tip that worked a treat. The clip was posted to her page and read: "My hydrangeas were wilting after only 3 hours of having them so I tried this hack."

The short video shows her white cut flowers looking very sorry for themselves as she puts them head first into a bowl of water. As she pulls them out after a soak, they have sprung back to life and been restored to their former glory.

Playing over the clip is American rapper Megan Thee Stallion being interviewed and saying "If you just know you're that girl". The interviewer asks her what if she doesn't wake up feeling like that girl and she answers, "you need to go back to sleep and wake back up again so you can feel like that girl" which is presumably meant to mirror what the flowers are doing.

The poster joked that the flowers are diva-like and wrote: "Dramatic a*se flowers! They are so me lmao". When answering a follower's question about how long she had left them in the bowl for, she said she soaked them overnight because she believes they're meant to be submerged for 12 hours.

Other users of the platform added their words of wisdom to the clip and revealed the hack works because hydrangeas are different from other plants: "Unlike most flowers hydrangeas get water from the top, not the stem," said one. Another added: "When my mom had a flower shop she'd have me go mist the hydrangeas."

A third explained: "Hydrangeas are watered through the petals and don't get water through the stem like most flowers! Keep them upside down in room temp water before displaying. To which the original poster replied: It's funny because when I bought them they were being watered just like every other flower/plant (through stems). Definitely learned something new ha!"

"Hydrangeas = hydrate. They're thirsty b****es," joked another reader. However one said: "I've tried this so many times and it never works."

Others offered their tried and tested methods for watering from the head: "The water should be as cold as possible. I usually add some ice!" wrote one.

While another disagreed: "It only works for me when I use warm water," and a third added: "You need to leave them submerged for hours not seconds. You will need to repeat this process when wilting first occurs."

Another shared their advice and said: "Cut the stems and put in HOT water. 30 min later they’re brand new! A florist told me this trick."

While one agreed with the feel of the post: "They so dramatic," they wrote with laughing emojis and the original poster added: "Sooo dramatic. I love."
