A man who sped uncontrollably down a motorway at 90mph when his brakes failed has spoken of his "panic".

Nathan Owen unintentionally caused chaos on the M62 on Wednesday when his Jaguar I-PACE malfunctioned on the road - forcing police to step in to stop the runaway electric vehicle. Officers from Merseyside Police and Greater Manchester Police ended up ramming the vehicle and blocking it between a number of police cars, bringing it to a halt.

Pictures from the scene showed the black motor wedged in between two police cars. Nathan has since revealed what it was like to be stuck inside the speeding car, telling The Sun that his attempts to use the button handbrake, neutral and reverse gears to stop it all failed - leaving him completely out of control.

Reflecting on his lucky escape, the 31-year-old from Bolton said: "It was like a movie. I could've crashed, it could've killed me, it could've killed somebody else." He said he had called police while in the car to alert them of situation, and stayed on the phone with them until they intercepted him many miles later. He had driven on the hard shoulder in an attempt to keep away from other motorists.

Long delays were reported on the M62 between Junction 11 and 12 following the incident as a result of multiple lane closures. Two lanes later reopened, with a further two closed, causing major delays of almost an hour and congestion backed up ahead of rush hour. According to traffic site INRIX, traffic was seen all the way back to junction 10 for Croft Interchange.

North West Motorway Police said on social media: "Police currently have a lane 3 and 4 closure on M62 EB J11 to 12. This is following the use of tactics to stop an electric vehicle with an electric fault where the driver was unable to brake. Motorway officers from Merseyside, Cheshire and GMP brought the vehicle to a safe stop."
