The Prince and Princess of Wales were applauded by eagle-eyed royal fans after a special outing with their son, Prince Louis.

The couple share three children together - Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and little Louis, five - and in keeping with tradition they all stepped out to attend the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham in December.

Louis once again stole the show, holding hands with his cousin Mia Tindall and beaming to the crowd who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the royals, as he walked to church.

And in honour of the special occasion, he rocked a pair of navy and green tartan trousers, teamed with a smart navy coat.

Royal watchers were quick to identify the statement slacks. They noted that the trousers were likely a hand-me-down from Louis' big brother Prince George, who wore an identical pair in a portrait with the late Queen Elizabeth II, then-Prince Charles and Prince William back in 2020.

On Twitter, one royal fan commented, via HELLO!: "Love that Prince Louis wore the tartan trousers from Prince George," while another agreed, adding: "Yes! Love the Wales children in hand me downs. So real."

Louis's mum, Princess Kate, is famous for recycling her outfits, opting for timelessly chic pieces she can wear on rotation.

While it led to her initially being dubbed 'thrifty Kate' in the press, the Princess' practice of shopping from her own wardrobe sends out a strong message about the importance of sustainability in fashion.

In addition to reusing outfits, the Princess of Wales also stays sustainable by wearing vintage pieces. And in a royal first, Princess Kate wore a rented dress to the December 2022 Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Boston.

In keeping with the event's earth-friendly theme, guests were asked not to purchase new dresses or suits for the evening.

Kate adhered to the sustainable fashion guidelines in a bright green off-the-shoulder gown by Solace London, which she rented from HURR, a rental platform in the U.K. for designer dresses. The exact dress worn by Kate is now being rented by others.

She accessorised her look with the ultimate rewear - an emerald and diamond choker that belonged to Princess Diana.

"I loved how she teamed a very accessible rental dress you can hire for £74 with a priceless emerald choker - that was such a brilliant high-low moment," Bethan Holt, fashion director at The Daily Telegraph told PEOPLE at the time.
