Marcus Rashford's night out in Belfast has strained some of his relationships within the Manchester United dressing room, according to reports.

The forward found himself in hot water last month after he stayed out until the early hours in a Belfast nightspot and missed training the next morning - which he then tried to convince the club had happened 24 hours earlier before a planned day off.

As a result his status as a senior figure among his team-mates has been damaged, with the player also punished when he was dropped for the FA Cup clash at Newport County just days after the incident. He's since talked it over with Erik ten Hag, but the pair have no more than a working relationship, reports the Daily Mail.

It is the second time this season Rashford's off-field antics have landed him in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. After the Manchester derby defeat at Old Trafford he went out partying to celebrate his birthday despite the Red Devils being defeated 3-0 in front of their own fans.

Rashford's decisions appear to have frustrated his colleagues. The England international, though, has looked to underline his commitment to the club in an article he wrote in the Players' Tribune last week, in which he opened up on his love for the club before scoring a stunner in the derby at the weekend.

The academy graduate has endured a notable drop off this season after being arguably United's best player last term. He produced his best ever display in front of goal but has failed to match that this season with his body language also being questioned.

Roy Keane said recently on the Stick to Football podcast that Rashford is no longer a young player and must begin to own his mistakes. “The penny has to drop for him [ Marcus Rashford ]," he claimed. "When we went into the dressing room, guys wouldn’t pat you on the back and saying, ‘Well done for missing training yesterday’.

"I came back late one time, I went to Nottingham to watch a reserve match, I’d only just come to Manchester United and came in four or five hours late.

"You’re talking about Marcus getting that protection – sometimes you are on your own. You’re 26, you’re an experienced player in the dressing room. You must hold your hands up and say, ‘I have been an idiot’.”
