Simon Cowell's heartwrenching reason for bursting into tears at swanky gala revealed

Simon Cowell recently broke down in tears while making a speech at the Together For Short Lives charity ball in London.

The Britain's Got Talent judge, 64, attended the event with his fiancée Lauren Silverman. During his speech on stage, he admitted he "couldn't talk" and became emotional as he encouraged people to support the organisation. The music is a patron of the charity which raises vital funds for palliative care for children who are fighting life-threatening conditions.

For the charity ball, he rocked a black suit with a simple white shirt, famously with several buttons undone, adding a pair of sunglasses to his striking look. However, at one point, Simon got overwhelmed as he talked to attendees at London's Dorchester Hotel.

"So, I can't talk," he said. "So we discussed doing something slightly different previously we've asked people to stand up and pledge £1,000." Following the event, the real reason the TV icon broke down in tears has been revealed.

According to MailOnline, a woman talked to Simon about how her son died on Valentine's Day- the same day of the year that Simon's son Eric, now nine years old, was born. It led to the music mogul becoming emotional while on stage talking to the charity guests.

At the beginning of February, the 64-year-old worried fans when he dropped out of filming auditions for BGT due to health issues. The illness he was battling was not initially revealed when reports first came out - but it was later revealed that he had been struck down by migraines.

Not long after, he returned back to work overseeing auditions alongside returning judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli. Fans would have noticed Simon sporting special sunglasses that have been helping him combat migraines that were caused by the harsh lighting in the studios.

"He occasionally gets migraines from being under the bright filming lights for long stretches. His tinted glasses help a lot however, unfortunately, he’s been prone to migraines and the filming lights are particularly bright... He's in fantastic health, better than ever and has great fitness too, is biking and walking a lot every day and has started reformer Pilates to strengthen his back... All his friends are telling him to bring out a range of his own light-filtering glasses now to help others," a source recently told People magazine.
