Kate Middleton's uncle makes telling admission about niece during CBB launch

Kate Middleton will be watching Celebrity Big Brother from "behind the sofa", her uncle said as he made his debut during the live launch this evening.

Self-made millionaire Gary Goldsmith, 58, stepped up to the Big Brother house to be locked away with the likes of Louis Walsh and Fern Britton. Carole Middleton's brother has not been shy when it comes to revealing his thoughts on Prince Harry and Meghan, so the Palace will likely be concerned over exactly what he'll spill when he takes part in the show.

Joining hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best on the ITV show today, he was quizzed on whether Kate would be watching. He quipped: "If so it'll be behind the sofa!"

It comes as Kate continues her recovery from what Kensington Palace has called a 'planned abdominal surgery' that she underwent back in January. The Princess of Wales is not due to return to official duties until at least Eastertime, despite growing speculation online about her whereabouts and the details of her health condition, to which a palace spokesperson has reiterated they "made it clear in January the timelines of the princess' recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands."

Goldsmith, said to be the black sheep of the family, previously attempted to join I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here last year but was unsuccessful. This was down to worries that William and Kate would be embarrassed by her maternal uncle, the Mail reports, however, the Celebrity Big Brother team doesn't share these concerns, instead believing the businessman's uninhibited style will fit right in.

To ensure they secured the best of the best for their very first series, ITV bosses are said to have splurged £2million on the diverse line-up. With throwback names like Louis Walsh and Fern Britton to newer faces like Heartstopper's Bradley Riches and presenter Zeze Millz and then Kate Middleton's uncle, this year's series could prove to be its most dramatic yet.

Last week, the Mirror was invited to a sneak peak tour of the celebrity house and host Will revealed the house has undergone one huge change from last year’s reboot - frosted shower doors. "To give the new housemates some more privacy," he explained. Fair enough!
