Meghan Markle has been accused of lashing out in anger by "throwing a cup of tea" while Queen Elizabeth II refused one of the Duchess' requests.

The former Suits actress seemed to have developed a sweet bond with the late monarch, but royal author Tom Bower has suggested things weren't as they seemed. In his book 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors', Tom opened up about Meghan's life in the Royal Family, including her relationship with Elizabeth.

He claimed the late Queen was relieved when it was reported Meghan couldn't attend Prince Philip's funeral at St George's Chapel, Windsor. The service was scheduled for April 17, with Prince Harry flying over from the US. Meghan, however, was unable to attend as she was seven months pregnant at the time.

Tom wrote how Elizabeth said to her staff on the day of the funeral: "Thank goodness," after hearing Meghan wouldn't be joining Harry. He also accused Harry and Meghan of "demanding" to appear with the Queen on Buckingham Palace's balcony during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

However, their request was denied. He said: "Festering was their fury that the palace had refused all of their demands for a prominent role at the Jubilee. In Meghan's view those optics were unsatisfactory, partly because her value to Netflix was to stand near the Queen."

The royal author also claimed Harry and Meghan were obsessed with scrolling through social media during their time in the Royal Family. "According to one report, Meghan allegedly threw a cup of tea into the air," Tom wrote.

He said she became angry with her husband for "searching for snide comments on the internet". Elsewhere in 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors', the author said the Royal Family imposed a number of rules on Meghan while she was filming her last season of Suits.

He said the show's creator Aaron Korsh was told to submit all scripts to Meghan's agent Nick Collins. Tom alleged scripts were then sent to Kensington Palace for approval, with changes being sent back to Los Angeles.

Tom wrote: "The most important demand concerned Meghan’s last scene at her 'wedding' to Mike. No photographs, the Palace ordered, were to be shot of Meghan wearing a wedding dress. Between filming, she was always to wear a jacket over the dress."
