A mum has been left utterly heartbroken after 'nobody' showed up to her daughter's eighth birthday party, leaving the little one in tears. She explained how she invited six children to celebrate her daughter's birthday with her at an arcade with "unlimited gaming and food" - but only her cousin and one other child showed up.

She said on Reddit: "Invites were sent personally to each parent via text, and they all responded with a 'We will be there! Can’t wait!' Two, only two of the kids showed up. One of them was her cousin, she was even 35 minutes late." After 45 minutes, her daughter approached her to ask when her other friends were due to arrive, leaving the mum with a 'frog in her throat'.

"She came up to me and asked if anyone else had called or showed up," she added. "The hurt in her eyes when I told her 'no' will forever be ingrained in my brain. It’s a s****y core memory for her. It happened to me growing up more times than I can count and that feeling never ever goes away."

Not wanting any other child to go through this heartache, she is urging parents to send a 'heads-up' text if their child is unable to make a birthday party because something came up last minute. She said: "Not one parent contacted me to let me know they wouldn’t make it. Everything was paid for in advance, based upon RSVPs. I don’t even care about the money anymore, my heart breaks for our daughter."

Mum slammed for cancelling son's birthday party after 'sexist' joke to friends eiqekiqxridduinvMum slammed for cancelling son's birthday party after 'sexist' joke to friends

Commenting on her post, one user said: "I had my daughter's entire class RSVP to come to one. We paid to have it at an awesome swimming pool. Over 40 classmates. Zero. Zero showed up. Luckily, all the family showed up. I never again paid for a party like that. All the BBQ food was wasted. All the party favours I went all out on were wasted."

Another user added: "We decided to go all out with my daughter's fifth birthday this year because she’s in Pre-K. We invited her whole class, rented out a gymnasium, bought a whole bunch of food, and no one showed up. It was just my in law’s, my sister in law, and my dad and grandma.

"She just kept asking when her friends would be there and I told her I didn’t think they were and she was sad but at the end of her party, she said it was the best day ever. But I hate that parents don’t bring their kids to birthday parties anymore."

A third user said: "The same happened with my daughters. I sent out invitations for both of their classes (40 kids) to come to a birthday party and no one showed up only their cousins and it broke my heart. They kept asking me if anyone was coming and I just couldn’t say anything. And I always made sure my girls showed up for their parties."
