'I held my daughter a birthday party to miss my mother-in-law's Disney trip'

A woman decided to organise a birthday party for her daughter for the first time ever - solely to avoid her mother-in-laws celebrations.

The nine-year-old hadn't got to enjoy a party before as the mum had been apprehensive due to the planning, but she changed her mind when she learnt of her mother-in-laws plans.

Taking to Reddit, the mum claimed that her mother-in-law sucks the fun out of a lot of things and her brother-in-law was going through his own drama so felt the family trip was best avoided.

And it ensured her daughter's birthday wasn't overshadowed - which she felt would happen if they went on the trip.

In the post, the mum, who remained anonymous, wrote: "The plan was renting a hotel room and all the grandkids visit which was our daughter, my niece, brother-in-law and his new girlfriend and her daughter and my husband and myself. We had to pay for our daughter and us.

"I didn’t think it was right we would have to pay for us when our daughter’s birthday was basically the same weekend and I’ve been to Disney with her. She sucks all the fun out with her complaining."

The mum added that her daughter really wanted a party and because her mother-in-law was pushing to go to Disney just to celebrate her birthday, she decided she would plan the party for her daughter.

She said: "She was turning nine. And she has lots of friends. I didn’t want to do a party because of the planning. But because mother-in-law was pushing us to go to Disney to celebrate her birthday, I told daughter - hey! How would you like that party?

"I planned it right when mother-in-law planned her getaway. And when she pushed I said so sorry, we have our daughter’s birthday party then."

The mum finished by saying that her daughter had 17 kids attend the party and she loved it so was happy that she was able to celebrate her birthday while the mother-in-law held her own celebrations.

In response, some have sided with the mum and said she was right to plan her daughter's party.

One person wrote: "Not only cheaper but less stressful and your daughter was happier. Win win win."

However, others were less sympathetic to the mum and said she should not have planned the party just to get back at the mother-in-law.

Another person stated: "The only way your kid gets a party is if it bothers your mother-in-law? I sincerely feel sorry for this child."

While a third penned: "So you weren't even going to give the kid a party? you only did it to spite your mil? Wow."
