Anthony Kim has officially announced he has signed with LIV Golf and will return to professional golf after 12 years since his last round.

The 38-year-old former Ryder Cup winner has seemingly turned down a return to the PGA Tour to instead join LIV, with him now gearing up to play for the first time on the professional circuit since 2012.

Speaking on why he has chosen to join LIV after announcing his return to golf, Kim said: "After stepping away from the game years ago due to injury, I’m happy to officially announce my return to the world of professional golf. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m very grateful for all the highs, lows and lessons learned from the first part of my career.

"I want to compete with the best players in the world, and I’m on a mission to prove to myself that I can win again. The next step on that journey starts now, and I’m excited to give everything I’ve got this season on the LIV Golf League."

Once dubbed the 'next Tiger Woods ', Kim suffered a torn Achilles among other injuries in 2012, keeping him away from the course for over two years before struggling with other injuries after various surgeries.

In 2015, it was reported that Kim had stopped playing golf completely - with his name barely mentioned in the past half-decade after he seemingly made his decision to quit the sport. It was later revealed that Kim received an insurance payment after undergoing surgery, but in order to qualify for the financial benefits, he had to quit golf.

Commissioner of LIV Golf, Greg Norman announced Kim's return, when he tweeted: "He oozes incredible talent. The world has seen it in the past and now it is an honour as Commissioner of LIV Golf to give the opportunity for this star to be reborn. Welcome back and to the LIV Golf family mate. The golf world has missed you."

Kim has reportedly been signed to a 'wild card' deal with LIV, where he is reportedly set to be given a signing bonus of £6 million - with the opportunity to make much more on the tour.
