'Monarchy might be short on numbers for events - but Andrew is never the answer'

Andrew is no solution

Grinning like a Cheshire Cat and positioning himself as head of the royal pack, Prince Andrew has no shame.

The disgraced Duke of York seized the absence of his elder brother, King Charles, and the Prince of Wales to grab the limelight in a truly stomach-churning fashion. Instead of staying in the shadows at a Windsor memorial service for Greece’s former King Constantine, sharp-elbowed Andrew displayed a distasteful lack of decorum.

He denied the allegations, but paying a small fortune to settle court action brought by a woman who claimed she was sex trafficked to sleep with him, is why he can never again play a prominent role within the Royal Family.

The monarchy might be short of numbers with the King’s cancer treatment, Prince William caring for his wife after her operation and Prince Harry in the US, but discredited Andrew on the front line isn’t the answer.

Down the pan

We need solutions not hectoring when one in four children starting school aren’t toilet trained. It’s awful for embarrassed pupils and teachers dealing with them so parents failing in this regard need educating.

Because study after study shows that early years shape a child’s future and those neglected, missing out and left behind will pay a high price for the rest of their life. The closure of many hundreds of children’s centres during the Conservative era is shameful and will have dire consequences.

That a quarter of children are unable to go to the toilet properly by the time they sit in classrooms is another reason why the Tories must be replaced by Labour.
