A mass brawl broke out at an exclusive rooftop bar in Australia with more than a dozen people filmed punching and kicking.

At least one man was taken to hospital after the violent scenes in the Pool Club at Sydney’s Merivale Ivy Precinct on Sunday night. Images show punches first exchanged by a group of men and before long, around 12 were involved in the melee by the pool.

In the packed area some people could also be seen trying to pull brawlers apart while a person could also be heard shouting “fight’s on”. A separate clip shows people who were pushing and kicking a man who managed to get to his feet before he was then punched and fell back into the pool.

While security guards came to his aid and he was helped out of the water, he was then punched in the face again and reportedly taken to hospital with injuries. There were further clips of the violence that were uploaded onto social media that included two women fighting on sun lounges.

The footage has gone viral on social media and many people have commented on the fracas. One person wrote: "We just walked into the venue when this was all happening. Not exactly a fair fight with one person being tag teamed by 7 people in the same group!

"Then the girls got into it too! Seriously man, it was only 5:45pm - Not even dinner time!!! Surely there was no reason to escalate to brawling at a high end establishment like the Ivy."

New South Wales Police were called to the scene and confirmed that a man was taken to hospital where he is described as being in a “stable condition”, reported the Mail. An investigation is now underway by police into the cause of the brawl that started around 6pm in the evening when a DJ set by the Sunset Bros was taking place.

The Ivy is owned by Justin Hemmes as part of his Merivale empire. On its website it states itself as “Sydney's favourite poolside destination comes alive after dark with live entertainment, one-of-a-kind parties, and the occasional splash”. It adds: “There's nothing quite like ivy. Our ever-evolving inner-city hub can take you from your morning coffee run, to a long lunch and then a pulsing dance floor, all in a single day.”
