Six bombshells from Trump's speech as he delivers apocalyptic vision of future

Former US President Donald Trump spoke to thousands of his most loyal supporters attending the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this evening.

During his speech, the presidential candidate delivered attacks on Joe Biden and warned of an apocalyptic future the US could face if the current president wins the White House again in November. Trump said: "If crooked Joe Biden and his thugs win in 2024 the worst is yet to come. Our country will sink to levels that are unimaginable."

But during his speech, he also appeared to make a blunder, suggesting he would rather see Biden in the White House again. Here, we look at all the bombshells from Trump's speech.

November 5 branded 'liberation day'

"For hard working Americans, November 5 will be our new liberation day," Trump told the crowd. "But for the liars and cheaters and fraudsters and censors and imposters who have commandeered our government, it will be judgement day," he said to loud applause.

"When we win, the curtain closes on their corrupt reign and the sun rises on a bright new future for America."

Trump describes himself as 'political dissident'

Trump also claimed to be a "proud political dissident" days after comparing himself to Alexei Navalny, the top political opponent of Russia's autocratic leader Vladimir Putin, who died in a remote Arctic prison after being jailed by the Kremlin leader. "I stand before you today only as your past and hopefully future president, but as a proud political dissident. I am a dissident," he told the crowd.

Trump warns US will lose WWIII under Biden

The former US president said a Biden win in the coming election will lead to the US losing World War III. Ranting to his massed supporters, Trump warned against a Biden victory saying: "He'll soon have us losing World War III. We won't even be in World War III, we'll be losing World War III.

"With weapons the likes of people have never seen before. These are the stakes of this election." He added: "The only thing standing between you and obliteration is me. It's true."

He says Ukraine and Gaza conflicts would 'have never happened'

Trump also claimed that conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza would "have never happened" if he was still in charge. He went on to tell the crowd: "Crooked Joe Biden, you are fired. Get out of here. Get that you’re just destroying our country. You’re fired. Get the hell out of here."

Trump casts himself as a saviour

Trump used his speech to cast himself as a saviour standing between his supporters and near-anarchy as he spoke of "hoards of illegal aliens stampeding across our borders," warned the country's social safety net and education system would "buckle and collapse," and claimed that, "the gangs will be invading your territory."

"These are the stakes of this election: Our country is being destroyed and the only thing standing between you and its obliteration is me," he declared, casting Biden's leadership as "an express train barreling toward servitude and to ruin.

"A vote for Trump is your ticket back to freedom, it's your passport out of tyranny and it's your only escape from Joe Biden and his gang's fast track to hell. And in many ways, we're living in hell right now," he said, adding: "The unprecedented success of the United States of America will be my ultimate and absolute revenge."

Trump's blunder

In what seemed like a huge blunder, Trump said he would rather see Joe Biden as president than himself. The former US president repeated claims that he had a good relationship with Vladimir Putin, saying he and the Russian leader "got along well" while he was in the White House.

Recently, Putin said he would prefer to see Biden as president again - and Trump recalled the comments during his speech. "Biden, he's more experienced, more predictable, he's a politician of the old formation," Putin said. "But we will work with any US leader whom the American people trust."

Tonight, Trump seemed to agree with Putin as he said: "He did announce the other day that he'd much rather see Biden as president, and I agree with him." It is not clear if he really meant to suggest that he would rather see Biden in the White House again, but Trump did not seem to correct himself and carried on attacking the current president.
