Ten Hag told Man Utd are in an "unacceptable position" amid Dalot confession
Dwight Yorke has told Manchester United they can't settle for a Europa League spot - while Diogo Dalot has conceded he understands fan frustrations.
It has been a underwhelming second season at the helm for Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, whose job has come under serious scrutiny at times this term. United currently languish sixth in the table, five points adrift of the much-coveted fourth spot that secures Champions League qualification.
It's a campaign that has seen some particularly dismal defeats, with the 3-0 home loss at the hands of Bournemouth and another home defeat by Crystal Palace the standouts. And yet, the idea of European football of some capacity being played at Old Trafford next season is by no means out of the question.
United are in a strong position to qualify for the Europa League, but Yorke has made clear he would not be satisfied with that as the highlight of his former side's season. He told Instant Casinos : "I wouldn’t be happy with the Europa League. We’re playing for fourth at the moment. Right now, seventh [sic] is where we are as a team which is unacceptable given the amount of talent the club has at the moment.
"We will wait and see at the end of the season but I don’t see United winning any major competitions, certainly not this season. I’ll be very happy if United finish fourth." United do still have a shot at silverware, given they have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup. Early elimination from both the Champions League and the Carabao Cup means the FA Cup is their only hope of a trophy this term.
Marcel Sabitzer completes Man Utd transfer after last-minute deadline day dashAhead of Saturday's league clash against Fulham, right-back Dalot has admitted United's stature as a club means they should always be fighting for the title. The Portugal international explained to Goal : "The standard will always be fighting for the Premier League, the Champions League and all the trophies that we are in.

"So I think we can be in the right direction to go there. The club hasn't won the Premier League in a lot of years. Eleven years. So the fans have been waiting a long time. This is now, we have to win now. For them [the fans] it doesn't matter if we won the Carabao Cup last season, in the next one we just have to win two trophies, win the Premier League. Every year you start the Premier League with expectations that you can win it."
Dalot went on to add: "This is the type of mentality that we need in the club. It's the normal standard for the club. It's up to us as players, as a club, as staff to show it and to do it on the pitch."
