Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary welcome adorable new This Morning member
This Morning have welcomed a brand new puppy as the newest member of the team.
On Friday, Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary announced the adorable new arrival would be joining the ITV studio for the day. The hosts revealed the puppy had a very special role to play with a charity dedicated to help those with autism, as resident This Morning vet Dr Scott Miller shared his personal insight into the charity.
The puppy was brought onto the show with a representative of the Dogs for Autism charity and explained the puppy will be trained to help provide assistance to autistic adults and children. Alison, who is taking over from the late Paul O'Grady as host of For The Love of Dogs, couldn't resist having a cuddle with the adorable canine.
Dermot and Alison called on viewers to name the latest addition to the This Morning team with the hosts also sharing their own suggestions. Alison liked the idea of Jessie, while Dermot comically suggested Puppy McPupface. The charity representative revealed Stormzy was a shortened version of his full pedigree name and Dr Scott shared his fondness of traditional old-fashioned names for dogs such as Colin and Kevin.
"This is our new puppy and he's adorable – we just need a name for him," Alison said later on in the show as they continued to be distracted by the cute canine.
Phillip Schofield mocks Molly-Mae's baby name in cruel swipe at Love Island starThis Morning viewers shared their ideas on X, formerly known as Twitter, as one wrote: "#ThisMorning you should name the adorable assistance puppy ‘Stormzy’ a shortened version of his pedigree name!" Another said: "#ThisMorning Only possible name for the puppy is Ted!"
A third suggested they name the puppy after This Morning's new host Ben Shephard, as they tweeted: "Name the puppy Ben after @benshephard #ThisMorning."
Dr Scott opened up on This Morning about why this charity's great work is also a personal story for him. He said: "I have two children who have autism. My son Jackson is nine and he had speech disorder, which meant he didn't speak for the first four years of his life and has a bit of difficulty at school, emotionally regulating.
"And with our dog Ludo, we've really seen an improvement in his ability to be able to relax and be calm. Having that big dog to hug makes such a difference to him. Our youngest, Riley is nonverbal, she can speak a few words, but not too much. And again, I think it's the companionship of dogs that makes a big difference.
"And then also, it's not something I've talked about hugely, but this is a first year anniversary of my own personal autism diagnosis, and that was something that came after my children's diagnosis where I just saw some things in them that I could relate to."
