A woman has shared her embarrassment after congratulating the 'wrong bride' at a wedding. The woman said she had never seen the bride before, who was her boyfriend's cousin, but when she was on her way to finally say hello just before the ceremony started, her boyfriend had to take a phone call.

Her boyfriend wasn't near to her while he was speaking on the phone, and when she saw a woman "with a beautiful wedding dress" she said hello and congratulated her on getting married. But it turned out that the woman she spoke to wasn't her boyfriend's cousin and worse still the right bride overheard her, got upset and started crying.

The woman asked Reddit users if she was an a*****e for making this mistake and explained that: "The woman I was talking to wasn't the bride, the bride heard what I said (she was in a room near us, but I didn't notice because everything was silent. The bridesmaid or her mother weren't with her, I guess she just wanted time alone before the ceremony started?) and got upset and started crying.

"When my boyfriend approached us I explained the situation so he called the bridesmaid and the mum to calm her. My boyfriend and his family reassured me saying it wasn't my fault but the bride, her mum, and the groom are upset with me and are saying it's all my fault.

"I never saw her face so when I saw a woman in a wedding dress I immediately thought she was the bride. I still feel bad so a friend suggested I post this on Reddit to have some outside opinions."

Other users said she shouldn't be feeling too bad about the mistake as it wasn't really her fault. Not even a little bit. You went to a wedding, you saw a bride and said nice things. Not your fault the 'bride' wasn’t the actual bride, but what an introduction, right?

"You're not in the wrong but I wonder if she really is upset with you. It seems so weird that she would be angry at a person whom she's never met before being confused because someone else decided to wear white at her wedding. Chances are that she was simply overwhelmed and very emotional on the big day and it just exploded at that moment."

While another added: "It's not your fault and that people are blaming you for upsetting the bride is ridiculous. Why wouldn't you assume that a woman wearing a wedding dress was the bride? Unless they were standing side by side or something."
