UFC 300 main event finally announced as Conor McGregor misses out

UFC 300 will take place without Conor McGregor as a fight between Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill will headline the mega-event.

McGregor hasn't fought in over two and a half years but had been pushing for his comeback fight against Michael Chandler to take place on April 13 at UFC 300 in Las Vegas. No event or date has yet been announced for the Irishman's comeback fight and UFC boss Dana White shut down McGregor's claims that it will take place on June 29.

"When Conor is ready to fight, you know we’ll announce it. That’s what we’ll do," White said. McGregor moved one step closer to his UFC return by recently submitting his first drug test samples as part of the promotion's new anti-doping programme, Drug Free Sport, that was implemented at the beginning of this year.

UFC 300 also features a women's world title fight between Weili Zhang and Yan Xiaonan and a 'BMF' title fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway. Six former world champions are in action as the likes of Charles Oliveira takes on Arman Tsarukyan and Jiri Prochazka fights Aleksandar Rakic.

Former two-time Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison makes her UFC debut against Holly Holm and Jim Miller makes history on the card having fought at UFC 100 and UFC 200. The prelims are stacked with fun fights such as Deiveson Figueiredo's bantamweight scrap with Cody Garbrandt and Diego Lopes' fight against Sodiq Yusuff.

McGregor's fight against Chandler was expected to take place at the end of last year but his absence from the USADA testing pool delayed the fight. Chandler is getting impatient as his fight with McGregor was announced over a year ago and he wants to punish the Irishman by sending him into retirement.

"I finish Conor within the first two rounds and after that, probably end his career,” Chandler said on his YouTube channel. “There’s just so much more than what people think about on the surface level. I want battlegrounds of epic proportions, I want to stand in the cage with that man, I want to break that man’s will, I want to break his jaw."
