An excited guest on BBC's Escape to the Country had her breath taken away from her when she laid eyes on the property she had dreamed of all her life.

Donna, who appeared on the show alongside her partner Caroline, was introduced to the 18th century property by TV presenter Chris Bavin, who did his very best to help the couple find their dream home ahead of their retirement.

Property hunters Donna and Caroline explained that they were in search of a slower pace of life as they looked forward to their retirement years, and wanted to make their dreams of living in the rural countryside a permanent reality.

The couple became serious about moving to the West Midlands after a visit to Donna's sister's home in Shropshire, on the Welsh border. After meeting one another in 2005, c ustomer advisor Caroline, and electronics technician Donna moved in together.

Almost twenty years on, the pair explained that they were finally ready to find their forever home, and knew in their hearts that Shropshire was where they belonged.

With a budget of £600,000 between them, and a checklist of a detached property with a large kitchen, three bedrooms and a spacious garden, they went in search and viewed three incredible properties with the help of Chris, but there was one particular home that immediately moved Donna to tears. Situated in a quaint village in Powys, Wales, Donna and Caroline fell head over heels in love with the home which was built in 1856 from local brick and stone.

Named The Millhouse given that the property was once upon a time a mill, the stunning home is situated in the village which previously hosted Hollywood star Hugh Grant who spent months filming the comedy, The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain during the summer of 1995.

The gorgeous rural property, which was within the couple's budget and on the market for £595,000, did come with one major downfall however, as presenter Chris revealed that the last couple moved out of the home after some terrifying incidents unfolded.

As it turns out, the property is said to come with it's own resident ghost - but Donna and Caroline didn't seem fazed by the revelation as they both insisted that they could see themselves living in the property which also boasted 4 acres of land.

“In my heart I love it but in my head it would be a lot of work," Caroline said, before an emotional Donna responded: "It’s not how I pictured myself living until I got here and now I can picture myself only living here.”

While the couple didn't seem to mind that they would be living with a ghost, the same can't be said for Escape to the Country viewers who flocked to social media to react to the revelation. One viewer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "£595,000 to live with a GHOST. It's a no from me."

"First of all, Shropshire is so boring, and secondly, why would anyone buy a property knowing that it's infested with a ghost. No thank you," another echoed.

"Beautiful house but not so sure about the spirits living there ha," someone else shared.
