Despite rumours flying that a PS5 release of Starfield is on the way, some of the names involved in revealing that info have since walked back the claim.

Since Microsoft buying Bethesda was first announced, the biggest talking point was and still is Starfield. A game that – despite never being formally announced for PlayStation platforms – was subject to months of speculation over its exclusivity status. Then, within the last month Starfield on PS5 discussion started all over again as rumours of the game making its way over to PlayStation after all kicked off, sending Xbox fans on the internet into so much of a frenzy that Phil Spencer had to acknowledge it, and he is now going onto the Official Xbox Podcast this week to address the fans.

However, the next wild swing in this saga has appeared, as Nate The Hate – one of the original people who posted that Starfield may be coming to PS5 – posted on ResetEra (via HazzadorGaming on Twitter ) saying that he was "now of the belief that Starfield is not happening and the info spread around was pure fiction" before adding "I'll own the miss". He later clarified on his own Twitter account, saying "Over the course of the week, I've rechecked the info mentioned below & the information suggesting Starfield was PS5-bound is false."

Insider Gaming's owner Tom Henderson also chimed in on his Twitter account, claiming that outside of Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, nothing is set in stone in terms of Xbox games going multiplatform, saying "it's been a prime example of Chinese whispers or people just making sh*t up to capitalise off the hysteria".

Go see a star war

Honestly, at this point it shouldn't matter too much if Starfield does come to PS5 or not. It's not like it really set the world on fire, and if it was as much of a hit as everyone expected it to be, we likely wouldn't hear rumours about it going multiplatform in the first place.

Although, Xbox probably needs to be direct and explain what games are being considered for multiplatform or not. For example, PlayStation games that focus on multiplayer like Helldivers 2 seem to be coming to PC the same day as console, while single-player titles take longer to arrive on PC. If Xbox let players know what it's planning in a clear way, it should hopefully calm down some of the ongoing hysteria.
