Meal deals are basically an essential part of monthly food shop days - and when it comes to Valentine's Day, supermarkets really up the ante.

Promising big flavours for a smaller price tag, Marks and Spencer are offering diners the chance to enjoy a three-course meal, with a side and your choice of drink for just £25, which is a lot cheaper than a dinner reservation at a fancy restaurant.

Yes, it's pricier than it's been in the past, but it's still great value, and with the cost of living crisis still impacting our pockets, a cosy meal in could be the best option. Romance doesn't have to be performative, and while my boyfriend and I enjoyed the weekend away, we decided to make a night of it in our Airbnb.

The meal deal landed in stores on February 9 (Friday) and will be available until Valentine's Day (Wednesday 14), so on Saturday, I headed to M&S to see what they had on offer. Admittedly, I had looked online prior, so I had a rough idea of what I was looking for, and the food hall was fully stocked with most of the options when I visited which was fantastic.

After a long day of walking and exploring, my partner and I were more than ready for this delicious meal. To start, we opted for the breaded camembert and compote, for main we chose sirloin steak with heart-shaped garlic butter, as our side, we chose dauphinoise potatoes, and to finish things off, it had to be chocolate melt in the middle puds. And of course, not forgetting one of the most important elements, I chose a bottle of Prosecco as the drink - naturally.

We did end up picking up a couple of additional things including butter to fry the steak, thyme, garlic, tenderstem broccoli, and chocolate custard for the pudding. We wanted a little bit of greenery for our main dish, and we thought the melt-in-the-middle puds would need that additional layer of je ne sais quois.
