Kate Garraway has been a rock for her GMB mate Richard Arnold after he shared the tough news that he's now caring for his mum.

Despite dealing with her own sadness over her husband Derek Draper's passing, Kate, 56, has been a huge help to Richard. His mum got sick last year and now needs him all the time. Richard recently opened up about how amazing Kate's been, sharing that the former I'm A Celeb star has been giving advice from her own time looking after Derek, who was very ill for almost four years and was laid to rest in London on Friday.

He told The Sun: "Mum had a bout of ill health last year and unfortunately she's now no longer independent and I'm there every day." Talking about the hard bits of caring, he added: "I remember saying to Kate, you know, you sort of feel guilty when you are there, are you doing enough? And then you feel guilty when you're not there enough. Anyone who's in that position as a sort of unpaid carer knows it's a huge responsibility."

Richard wants to make every day great for his mum Dot, who is 81, and he's doing it on his own since his dad passed away seven years ago. He also praised Kate for highlighting how tough it is for carers, calling her efforts "extraordinary".

Richard shared how Kate has been a great help: "I've been able to talk to her about navigating the caring system because, you know initially when you find yourself at a stage in life, where you have to navigate that, it feels like it's quite intimidating."

He added about his mum: "With my mum fortunately, she's all there as they say, in terms of her marbles, it's just unfortunate that her body is frail now she can't walk unaided. I have to be with her and that's something that we just take day by day."

Kate will be back on Good Morning Britain soon after Derek's funeral. She spoke to GMB from home and said: "Billy said, 'I'm so sorry mum,' and I thought my goodness, they've really taken on a caring role and I'm so proud of that. They did feel they didn't want to pressure him to keep going for us."

Richard also recently shared how he and his ITV colleagues will be there to help Kate settle back into her GMB role when she returns to work on Thursday. "I know there'll be a huge warm welcome for her when she gets back. You know, obviously it's a very poignant time, very personal time for the team as well," he said.
